From the Editorial Board of the WSJ, 20 May 2024" What It’s Like Being Jewish at HarvardAn alumni report on antisemitism on campus includes startling testimony from students and faculty.(...) The Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance last week published a report that compiles testimony, much of it anonymous, from 50 current and former Jewish students and faculty. (...)The report says bullying of Jewish students took place well before Oct. 7, when Hamas massacred Israelis civilians and precipitated the current war in Gaza. (...) While fellow students have been responsible for much of the problem, the Jewish alumni also document how it’s fueled by the Harvard professoriate and the school itself. This year 112 Harvard faculty and staff called for a boycott of Israel and all companies that “sustain Israeli apartheid, settler colonialism, and systematic human rights abuses.” A visiting professor in 2022-23 offered a course called “Jihad, War and Peace in Islamic Law and Practice.” Required reading, according to the alumni report, included such insight as: “The suicide bomber belongs in an important sense to a liberal tradition of armed conflict.” Harvard’s School of Public Health has a partnership with Birzeit University in the West Bank, which the report says “prohibits Israeli Jews from campus” and “hosts military parades for Hamas.” While students were reluctant to speak on the record, the authors say that faculty were even more so, because they worried it “could get them fired or undermine a promotion.”The report also reminds readers that after Hamas’s brutality on Oct. 7, the protests at Harvard began long before Israel launched a single response in Gaza. On Oct. 8 more than 30 student groups signed a statement saying that they held “the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.” The ink was dry before Israel had buried its dead and counted the hostages.Progressives claim to draw a line between anti-Zionism and antisemitism, but the two are impossible to disentangle in these student encampments, amid the chants about freeing Palestine “from the river to the sea.” (...)ZZZhttps://lnkd.in/emszDjFB

https://lnkd.in/eV6DrzZ9 harrowing new video of Hamas terrorists taunting five female Israeli soldiers with rape before abducting them to Gaza should serve as a “wake up call to the world” to end the hostages’ nightmare, the father of one of the young women says.

Soon these demonstrations took to the halls of Congress, where staffers openly sympathized (and even occasionally defected to) the pressure groups attacking their bosses. Eventually Democratic representatives, and then senators, began to capitulate. Democratic-aligned super-donors kept the pro-Hamas demonstrators flush with cash. Elite university presidents granted the tentifada’s wish lists, ceding them power over the administrating of the campuses. President Biden, the last holdout, folded and let them influence his foreign policy.

International Criminal CourtCPI prosecutor Karim Asad Ahmad Khan stunned the world by treating Israeli democratic leaders and Hamas terrorists responsible for the biggest anti-Semitic attack since Shoah pogrom an equal footing 7octobre . This approach, deemed "a disgrace" by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, raises serious questions about the legitimacy and credibility of the Court's investigation. 2/ By canceling his meeting with Israeli justice, Karim Khan opted for a media announcement rather than a legal one, disregarding the practices of international law. This action was seen as a remote political act rather than a genuine justice effort. 3/ François Zimeray, specialist in international law, points out the calculated expectation of the prosecutor to be able to accuse Israel and Hamas simultaneously. This strategy appears to aim to politically balance the accusations, ignoring the context of aggression and defense between the parties. Former French Ambassador for Human Rights, lawyer François Zimeray is a specialist in international law, and today represents several families of victims of the October 7 massacres.4.The comparison made by CPI between a terrorist organization and a democracy that defends itself is alarming. It is reminiscent of the mistakes of Nuremberg if the Allies had been tried alongside the Nazis for war crimes. Such an amalgamation is not only inappropriate but dangerous. 5.The choice of the CPI prosecutor to link the accusations against Israel to those against Hamas reveals a false equivalence which harms the credibility of international justice. This is not only a legal error, it is a moral fault and a betrayal of the principles of neutral justice. 6 A crucial aspect often overlooked is the competence of CPI based on the principle of complementarity. Israel, as a rule of law, already conducts its own investigations through its Supreme Court, recognized for its independence and integrity. 7. On the day scheduled for the declaration of the arrest warrants, meetings were organized between the prosecutor's office and the Israeli justice system. Oddly enough, these meetings were canceled for a press conference. If the meeting had taken place, the ICC would have been able to see that national investigations were already underway.8.This cancellation suggests that the CPI prosecutor preferred to avoid recognizing Israel's investigative efforts in order to be able to spectacularly and equivalently accuse the parties to the conflict. This approach raises serious doubts about the loyalty and integrity of the investigation carried out by the ICC. End. France, in supporting the action of the CPI , must remain cautious in its approach so as not to approve methods which compromise the fairness and neutrality necessary in the application of international law. Defending the ICC does not mean supporting actions that can weaken its fundamental mission. Simon Weinberg @SIMONWEINBERGTranslated from French

The constant flow of problematic information about Egypt keeps coming, let's summarize:1) It is becoming increasingly clear that the reason Israel did not visit Rafah for months was not poor planning on the part of Israel or the Biden administration, but because of Egypt, which tried to convince Israel and put pressure on the United States not to agree. This SERIOUSLY hampered the Israeli war effort.2) The number of tunnels leading from Egypt to Gaza is enormous and so there is no chance that Cairo was unaware of it.3) Egypt has been blocking all aid arriving at the Rafah crossing since Israel took over when they were more than happy to provide it to Hamas.4) CNN now reports that Egypt intentionally blew up the latest hostage deal: "Egyptian intelligence quietly changed the terms of a ceasefire proposal that Israel had already signed earlier this month- this, ultimately derailing a deal that could have freed Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, as well as paving the way for a temporary end to the fighting in Gaza, according to three people familiar with the discussions. »These are hostile acts by a country that, at best, has it both ways and, at worst, supports Hamas. The saddest part of all this is that Israeli and American intelligence services were misled. They treated Qatar as a bad interlocutor and Egypt as a good interlocutor. It is now clear that the two are completely hostile. It is no exaggeration to say that without Egyptian interference and subterfuge, the Israeli position in this war would be much better.Egypt provided supplies and control to Hamas for years and contributed to its war effort. It is a fact.Text of @academic_laSource : : https://lnkd.in/e4PXZ3qJJulien@CohenJulien

https://lnkd.in/eV6TQJCE. The changes made by Egyptian intelligence, the details of which have not been previously reported, led to a wave of anger and recrimination among officials from the US, Qatar and Israel, and left ceasefire talks at an impasse.“We were all duped,” one of those sources told CNN.
